Drive from Belfast along the Ards Peninsula coast road to the Mount Stewart House and Gardens.
Mount Stewart is a 19th-century house and garden in County Down, Northern Ireland, owned by the National Trust. Situated on the east shore of Strangford Lough, a few miles outside the town of Newtownards and near Greyabbey, it was the Irish seat of the Vane-Tempest-Stewart family, Marquesses of Londonderry.
The 98-acre garden is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the British Isles. Largely created by Edith, Lady Londonderry, wife of the 7th Marquis, in the 1920s, it has an unrivalled collection of rare and unusual plants.

Mount Stewart has been the home of the Stewart family, Marquesses of Londonderry for over 250 years. After a major restoration project, it now reflects the era when Charles, 7th Marquess of Londonderry, and his wife Edith, made it their much-loved Irish home from the 1920s to the 1950s.
Our restoration project saw the house brought back to how it looked when it was home to the 7th Marchioness Edith, Lady Londonderry.
